Pastor's Blog The Early Word...
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ; for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” Romans 1:16
As you count your most prized possessions, what is number one? When you purchase something new that you have wanted for quite a while, do you hide it or show it off?
Living in Aggie land I have found that one of the most honored days is that when the student receives his or her Aggie ring. That student is so proud. That ring is a possession that goes beyond the ability to describe. I have yet to meet anyone that was ashamed to possess that ring. In fact, just the opposite, they want all to see.
The Apostle Paul wrote that every Christian has a treasure; the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is more powerful than anything known to mankind. It is the power of God that changes lives; not just some but all who will believe. Paul continued in the second letter to the Corinthians reminding all Christians;
“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels…”II Corinthians 4:7 In other words, as Christians, we are possessors of this treasure. How do we show that we have received the most precious of all gifts, the greatest gift of all, that comes only from God above and required the death of His one and only son Jesus?
Does anyone know that we possess this great treasure? Like Paul, will our lives bear out the truth of these words; “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ…”.
We possess a treasure not meant to be hidden, but to be shown and shared.
