Pastor's Blog The Early Word...
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning: great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23 NIV
We are blessed with slightly cooler temperatures after a long siege of days with triple digit temperatures. For a while the weather man kept saying that tomorrow will be just like today, with no change in sight. Sometimes people look at life that way; every day the same with no change in sight. Yet God’s word tells us that every day is new day filled with compassion from God that never fails. Have you thought about what that means?
Mercy is perhaps best defined as God withholding what we deserve and grace is God giving us what we do not deserve. Both mercy and grace are God’s compassions on us. His compassions for us never fail because God loves us!!! Because He loves us, we are not consumed or destroyed. That is both God’s mercy and grace. Every day He withholds what we deserve and gives us what we could never deserve. And the word tells us "...they are new every morning".
Today is a new day to experience the love of God in great and wonderful ways. And the word gives us this beautiful promise "...great is your faithfulness" Lord God. That is the beautiful truth captured in words and put to music by Thomas O. Chisholm and William Runyan in 1923. The words of the chorus are:
“Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see:
All I have needed thy hand hath provided:
Great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me.”
As you begin this day remember it’s not just a repeat of yesterday, its brand new and so are God’s compassions for you! Look to Him, lean on Him and experience Him new today! You will find God’s faithfulness always!
